Ever since he was born, Kantarou has had the 6th sense to see demons. He is teased maliciously by the other village children and his only friends are youkai. Koutaru desparately wants to have a very strong friend that he can look up to, and so his youkai friends tell him about an oni-eating tengu. Upon hearing how powerful the creature is, Koutaru pursues the legend for many years. In order to solve a difficult case, Koutaru is in the mountains and finds the boulder in which the oni-eating tengu is sealed. Upon breaking the seal, he names the tengu "Haruka."

Since he has named the ogre-eater, Kantarou has made a contract with him, and can control him by using his name.
